After a long 19-month “off-season”, minor league baseball and the Indianapolis Indians are back in action!
Here are the basics of how the 2021 Indianapolis Indians Season will work.
And let us preface this with all dates and plans are subject to change due to the fluid situation of the COVID-19 pandemic.
You’ll also notice some new teams on the schedule. This is because the International League was disbanded before the 2021 season in conjunction with Major League Baseball‘s reorganization of Minor League Baseball.
All 14 teams formerly of the Triple-A International League, plus four teams from the Triple-A Pacific Coast League, one team from the Double-A Southern League, and one team from the independent American Association of Professional Baseball, make up the newly formed 20-team Triple-A East.
Along with the Triple-A West, Triple-A East is one of two leagues playing at the Triple-A level, which is one grade below Major League Baseball (MLB).
The Triple-A East teams are as follows.
Division | Team | MLB Affiliation | City |
---|---|---|---|
Midwest | Columbus Clippers | Cleveland Indians | Columbus, Ohio |
Indianapolis Indians | Pittsburgh Pirates | Indianapolis, Indiana | |
Iowa Cubs | Chicago Cubs | Des Moines, Iowa | |
Louisville Bats | Cincinnati Reds | Louisville, Kentucky | |

Lehigh Valley IronPigs | Philadelphia Phillies | Allentown, Pennsylvania | |
Rochester Red Wings | Washington Nationals | Rochester, New York | |

Syracuse Mets | New York Mets | Syracuse, New York | |
Worcester Red Sox | Boston Red Sox | Worcester, Massachusetts | |
Southeast | Charlotte Knights | Chicago White Sox | Charlotte, North Carolina |
Durham Bulls | Tampa Bay Rays | Durham, North Carolina | |

Now to address the elephant in the room.
With the Indianapolis Indians home opener set for Tuesday, May 11 against the Toledo Mud Hens at Victory Field, the organization announced numerous health and safety game day protocols in advance of the six-game series that runs through Sunday, May 16. The protocols align with previously set and approved guidelines by the Marion County Public Health Department (MCPHD), Major League Baseball (MLB), and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
“We are excited to welcome both Indians baseball and our great fans back to Victory Field,” said Randy Lewandowski, Indianapolis Indians President, and General Manager. “As we open our gates to kick off Victory Field’s 25th anniversary season, the safety of our fans, players, and staff remains top priority. While we recognize new capacity percentages for outdoor events were adjusted yesterday, our existing plan of 25% capacity for May home dates remains in effect. We look forward to increasing capacities later this summer while continuing to follow protocols and guidelines from the Marion County Public Health Department, Major League Baseball, and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.”
Safety protocols for game days at Victory Field are detailed here and below:
Due to the pandemic and delayed start of the season, all series are six games this season, which are held from Tuesday-Sunday.
There are no Monday games this year, thus we now have the Tuesday Dollar Menu on select dates.
There is no All-Star game this year due to the season delay and schedule changes.
The season will be played straight through from May 4th through September 19th.
There is no scheduled postseason for championship playoffs or the Triple-A National Championship Game.

More than 70 photorealistic dinosaurs are ready to return from extinction to delight families and dino fans everywhere, as Jurassic Quest Drive-Thru, the nation’s largest and most
realistic dinosaur experience will be at the Indiana State Fairgrounds and Event Center April 30-May 9, 2021.
After welcoming millions of guests to sold-out events across the country, Jurassic Quest Drive-Thru will transform South Lots of the Indiana State Fairgrounds and Event Center into a fun-filled drive-thru experience complete with baby dino and trainer meet and greets, photo opportunities, a choose-your-own-audio-adventure tour, and memories of epic proportions.
Jurassic Quest’s herd of animatronic dinos – from the largest predators to playful baby dinos – are displayed in realistic scenes that allow guests to experience them roaring and moving as they drive through the tour.
Jurassic Quest worked in collaboration with leading paleontologists to ensure each dinosaur was painstakingly replicated in every detail, from coloration to teeth size(!) to textured skin, fur or feathers, drawing on the latest research about how we understand dinosaurs and ancient giants of the sea looked and moved. Although the drive-thru experience means visitors will stay safe inside their vehicles, they’ll still need to avoid the swinging tail of the 50-foot Spinosaurus and the gigantic grinning Megalodon!
Tickets for Jurassic Quest are just $49 per vehicle (8 people or less) and available only at www.jurassicquest.com. An audio tour comes standard with every purchase (choose from two; special accommodations can be made for the hearing impaired) as well as a safari-style digital souvenir photo of your vehicle and family transported back in time via a Jurassic setting. Special souvenir packages and other add-ons can be purchased at check out.
Jurassic Quest Drive-Thru guests now get to choose their own audio adventure! Jurassic Quest’s own Safari Sarah, Dino Dustin, Captain Caleb, Prehistoric Nick, and Park Ranger Marty provide a fun-filled soundtrack for the hour-long trip back in time to help visitors navigate the dino herd and learn little-known dino facts – packed with plenty of lighthearted humor to tickle funnybones of every age (“get ready to Tricera-STOP here…”)! Visitors can opt for the original audio tour in English and Spanish or a brand-new audio adventure led by Safari Sarah with the rest of the crew serving up A BIG surprise for everyone at the end!
In addition to the life-like dinosaur exhibits, there will be opportunities to visit with one-of-a-kind baby dinosaurs and the Jurassic Quest team of dino trainers. Though no two visits are ever the same, all attendees will leave with the same bragging rights, “We Survived Jurassic Quest 2021!”
More than 2 million people have attended the Jurassic Quest Drive-Thru since the national tour launched in June with stops in New York, Los Angeles, San Diego, Boston, Philadelphia, Dallas, Oklahoma City, Detroit, Atlanta, Orlando, Cincinnati, Houston, and more.

The live tree recycling program offered by the Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) and Indy Parks is coming to an end on Sunday, January 31, 2021.
Now through this weekend, residents can continue to drop off live trees at eight different locations. Trees must be free of ornaments, tinsel, tree stands, and all other decorative materials. Trees should be dropped off only at the specially designated area within the park and only between dawn and dusk.
Drop-off locations are as follows:
The Indianapolis live tree recycling service recycles trees for sustainable landscaping resources, such as mulch and soil blends.
The live tree recycling program is not for commercial use and is solely for Marion County residents.
After the live tree recycling service ends on Sunday, residents still looking to dispose of trees are encouraged to contact a private landscaper or tree service personally for mulching. Trees should not be placed in standard trash carts unless they have been cut to an appropriate size and secured in bags as yard waste.
