INDIANAPOLIS – The Indianapolis Department of Public Works (Indy DPW) is prepping roads for potential winter weather that could hit the Indianapolis area on Wednesday afternoon and evening.
Beginning at 11 a.m. Wednesday, a full call-out of crew members with AFSCME Local #725 will transition to 12-hour shifts that will remain in place until further notice.
Ahead of and during freezing rain conditions, Indy DPW drivers will be dropping salt on the roadways, with special attention paid to bridges and overpasses.
Mechanics with Indianapolis Fleet Services will also operate on 12-hour shifts as they work to keep approximately 70 trucks available around the clock.
Wednesday marks the first of several upcoming days where winter weather conditions could affect Marion County. If you see our drivers on the road, please give them room to work. Indy DPW urges motorists to drive cautiously if there are icy conditions.
Freezing rain in the forecast has the potential to interrupt trash and recycling services.
