On May 21, 2025, the Indianapolis Colts announced the passing of their beloved owner, Jim Irsay, at the age of 65. Irsay, who had been with the team for over 50 years, leaves behind a remarkable legacy as a leader, philanthropist, and cultural icon.
Irsay’s journey with the Colts began in 1972 when his father, Robert Irsay, acquired the franchise. Jim took on the role of CEO in 1997 and led the team to a Super Bowl victory in 2006. Beyond football, he was deeply committed to the Indianapolis community, founding the Irsay Family YMCA and supporting cancer research through initiatives like Chuck Pagano’s gala, raising over $12 million for Indiana University’s Simon Cancer Center.
A passionate collector, Irsay shared his love for music and history through The Jim Irsay Collection, a traveling museum of iconic artifacts, and performed with The Jim Irsay Band alongside legends like John Mellencamp. His impact on the Colts and the city of Indianapolis will never be forgotten.
Our thoughts are with his daughters—Carlie Irsay-Gordon, Casey Foyt, and Kalen Jackson—and the entire Colts family during this difficult time. Rest in peace, Jim Irsay.
