Kevin Blanch, a respected fixture of the INDYCAR technical team and technical director of INDYCAR Officiating, has officially announced his retirement. Blanch, affectionately nicknamed “Rocket,” concludes a tenure that spanned 36 years in the sport and an impressive streak of 555 consecutive races.
Career Transition
Nick Allen, who previously served as the technical inspection manager for the NTT INDYCAR SERIES, has been appointed as the new technical director for INDYCAR Officiating. Allen joined INDYCAR in January, bringing two decades of experience as a race team mechanic and chief mechanic.
Legacy and Impact
Before joining INDYCAR in 2003, Blanch spent over six seasons with Panther Racing, where he served as crew chief and helped the team secure two INDYCAR SERIES championships, 11 victories, and five pole positions.
Throughout his over two decades with INDYCAR, Blanch oversaw technical inspections, provided oversight for performance and safety regulations, and ensured chassis and aerodynamic compliance. Among his many contributions, Blanch is remembered for hosting an annual mechanics’ party following the Indianapolis 500 Pit Stop Challenge. Over the past seven years, this event distributed an estimated $600,000 in donated merchandise to mechanics.
“I have simply poured my heart and soul into the sport I love and am very proud of the team I have worked alongside for over two decades,” Blanch stated. “This is a very difficult decision, but I feel like now is the right time to take a step back.”
