Sonsio Grand Prix: Friday Track Guide

The action kicks off tomorrow at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Here is everything you need to know for Friday, May 8, 2026.

Track Schedule

The gates open early at 7:30 a.m., with engines firing up shortly after.

  • Morning Sessions:
    • 8:00 a.m.: INDY NXT Practice
    • 9:05 a.m.: NTT INDYCAR SERIES Practice 1
    • 10:45 a.m.: USF 2000 Qualifying
    • 11:20 a.m.: USF Pro 2000 Qualifying
  • Midday & Afternoon:
    • Noon: INDY NXT Qualifying
    • 1:05 p.m.: NTT INDYCAR SERIES Practice 2
    • 2:45 p.m.: USF 2000 Race 1
    • 4:06 p.m.: INDY NXT Race 1 (35 laps)
  • The Main Event:
    • 5:35 p.m.: NTT INDYCAR SERIES Qualifying (Battle for the P1 Award)

Tickets and Entry

General Admission is $25, and kids 15 and under get in free with a paying adult. You can enter through Gates 1, 2, 4, 6S, 7, 7S, 9, or 10A.

If you want to take a break from the track, the IMS Museum is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. ($25 for adults).

Parking

  • Paid: $10 at the Main Gate or Lots 1A and 2. Premium parking at Gate 1 is $20.
  • Free: Head to Infield Turn 3 or Lot 7 (North 40) via Gate 10 off 30th Street.
  • Motorcycles: Free parking is available at the South Carousel lot (Gate 2).
  • ADA: Paid options are in Lot 2 and Gate 1; free ADA parking is located at the Museum, Flag, Tower Suites, and Northwest Gravel lots.

Heads Up: IMS is Cashless

The Speedway no longer accepts paper money for tickets, food, or gear. Bring your cards or use tap-to-pay on your phone. If you only have cash, look for the Cash-to-Card machine in Pagoda Plaza to transfer your funds onto a temporary debit card.
