Verizon‘s Commitment to Veterans and Innovation
On April 23, 2025, Verizon, Team Penske, and the Indianapolis Colts unveiled a $6 million initiative to address veteran debt relief in Indiana over the next two years. Announced at the iconic Indianapolis Motor Speedway, this partnership combines community impact with cutting-edge technology upgrades to enhance the racing experience.
Veteran Debt Relief Program
The initiative includes a $4 million collaboration with Team Penske during the Month of May, with $1 million committed for 2025 and an additional $1 million contingent on Will Power, driver of the No. 12 Verizon Team Penske Chevrolet, finishing in the top 10 at the 109th Indianapolis 500 on May 25, 2025. Additionally, Verizon will provide $2 million in debt relief in partnership with the Indianapolis Colts over the next two seasons.
“At Verizon, we believe in honoring our veterans not just with words, but with action,” said Andy Brady, president of Verizon’s Great Lakes Market.
This effort is part of Verizon’s broader $22 million debt relief program across the Great Lakes region, facilitated through ForgiveCo, which identifies and clears debt for veterans in need. In 2024, Verizon relieved over $4 million in debt for more than 4,800 veterans. Eligible veterans will be contacted directly by ForgiveCo, and no enrollment process is required.
Technology Upgrades at Indianapolis Motor Speedway
Alongside its veteran support, Verizon is investing in significant technological infrastructure at Indianapolis Motor Speedway, including:
- Upgraded Distributed Antenna System (DAS)
- Modernized 4G and new 5G coverage across 71 zones
- High-capacity antennas to handle massive data demands
- Improved connectivity at the main gates for streamlined ticketing
These upgrades ensure seamless connectivity for fans, teams, and media, enhancing the spectator experience and enabling innovative racing applications during the Indianapolis 500 and other events.
“Verizon has always been a leader in innovation and a company that makes a difference in people’s lives,” said Roger Penske, founder and chairman of Team Penske.
A Partnership for Community Impact
The collaboration reflects shared values of innovation, excellence, and community support. The Indianapolis Colts, a key partner, emphasized the initiative’s impact.
“This collaboration represents the best of what teamwork and shared values can achieve,” said Carlie Irsay-Gordon, vice chair/owner of the Indianapolis Colts.
Verizon’s commitment extends beyond this initiative. Employing over 8,000 veterans nationwide, the company has been recognized as a Military Friendly employer for seven consecutive years.
