Spring Cleaning Electronics Recycling at Krannert Park Saturday, April 23
The Indianapolis Office of Sustainability (Sustain Indy) and RecycleForce will host an electronics recycling (“E-cycle”) event this Saturday, April 23 at Krannert Park (605 S High School Road) from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Led by staff from the Indianapolis Department of Public Works – Environmental Resources Management team, this is the second special recycling event focused on electronics offered thus far in 2022. A similar event in January saw 600 residents bring a total of 30 tons of recyclables to Garfield Park for disposal.
The spring is a popular time for cleaning out spaces in your home. Garages, basements, and drawers are often go-to areas for old electronics that no longer work. In partnership with RecycleForce, a local non-for-profit organization that reduces crime through re-entry employment and job training opportunities while improving the environment through electronics recycling, the City invites all Marion County residents to recycle outdated or broken electronics at this special E-cycle event, so that these electronics may be properly recycled.
There is no cost for dropping off materials to be recycled. As a general rule, acceptable electronics include anything with a cord attached, plus the items listed at the bottom of this release. Indiana’s Electronic Waste law prohibits households, small businesses, and schools from disposing of electronic waste in the trash; this is a great opportunity for Marion County residents to properly recycle their waste and take care of the earth. Non-electronic materials will not be accepted during this event.
On-site staff will direct traffic at the event, and motorists should remain in their vehicles. Those interested but unable to attend can recycle unwanted electronics on Saturdays at ToxDrop sites across the county. The regular ToxDrop times and locations can be found at https://www.indy.gov/activity/
Electronic items accepted at this event may include:
- Cell phones
- Circuit boards
- Computers/Laptops
- External disk drives
- External tape drive
- Gaming systems and accessories
- Hairdryers and styling irons
- Hard drives
- Joysticks
- Keyboards
